Special Effects Supervisor Kevin Chisnall is the managing director of Taipan SFX.
Kevin’s early career started in broadcasting in 1971. In 1978 he studied special effects at the BBC studios in London, England. In 1980 he was special effects supervisor and armourer on New Zealand’s first big international production, The Race to the Yankee Zephyr, starring George Peppard and Donald Pleasance.
Three years later in 1983 Kevin was the New Zealand Special Effects Coordinator on the feature film “The Bounty “starring Mel Gibson & Anthony Hopkins
He travelled to Hong Kong in 1985 for his first South East Asian feature
“Aces Go Places - part 3 (Mad Mission)“, three other Hong
Kong movies quickly followed.
1987, saw him back in New Zealand working as New Zealand SFX Coordinator for George Lucas’s “Willow“.
Kevin has worked in the film & television industries
for over 36 years and has spent 24 of those years in and
out of South East Asia, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the South
Pacific Islands gaining valuable experience and
contacts with regard to shipping,
security, safety and knowledge of local regulations and conditions.
He is now based in Bangkok, Thailand providing pyrotechnic, atmospheric and mechanical effects as well as film armoury to the South East Asia region.
Kevin is happy to work in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Cambodia as well as Thailand, Taiwan, Hongkong, Australia, New Zealand and The Pacific Islands.
